Paper Quilling

It is believed to originate during the Renaissance as the French and Italian nurses and monks used paper quilling to embelish book covers and religious items.  The paper most commonly used during that time were strips from the gilded edges of a book. These strip of papers are then molded into different shapes that creates a figure when put together. Paper quilling was a popular hobby among high class women in Europe during the 1700s.
